66 year-old Paul had suffered from aches and pains all over his body for a long time. Two years ago he was diagnosed with polymyalgia and was given steroid to take. Though taking medication, he still had painful shoulders, back and thighs, and when it got worse his sleep could be interrupted and he felt very tired during the day. He also had hiatus hernia, which gave him stomach pain and acid reflux. He had tried different physiotherapies but none of them had helped much, and finally he was suggested by someone to see me for acupuncture. Luckily we had good result from the very first session. He felt so positive that after the 2nd session he was starting to cut down the steroid. After 4 sessions of acupuncture, Paul had very little pain and his stomach felt much better as well. This keen fell walker was so pleased to feel fit again and after a long walk in a weekend he said to me:"I couldn't have done this if I hadn't had acupuncture. I'm very grateful. I think I can have a break now and see how it goes. I'll contact you again when I need more treatment."

I met Mrs Howard when I was working in a GP's surgery in Carlisle in 2002. This 67-year-old lady had had trigeminal neuralgia for 3 months and been seeing her doctor at the surgery.
